Weekly Weather Watch – 23 November, 2021

Welcome to this week’s OU Nightly Weekly Weather Watch!

Norman, OK

Unlike last week, the temperatures in Norman, Oklahoma, will remain nearly constant for the last half of the week.  On Wednesday, November 24, a cold front will push through the state bringing rain chances to the Norman area.  However, the cold air won’t reach Norman until Thursday, November 25, 2021, just in time for Thanksgiving.  Those temperatures on Thanksgiving will drop to the upper 40s, but as the week progresses, the temperatures will warm into the 60s.

Fire Weather

Fire weather has made an unwelcome return to the middle of the United States.  There are critical fire weather conditions in southeastern Wyoming, western Nebraska, southeast Colorado, and northeast New Mexico.  According to Storm Prediction Center, “critically low RH is expected” on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, and though the winds will not be strong, “the presence of critically dry fuels and abnormally dry conditions warrants the inclusion of Elevated highlights.”  Those who live in these areas should be mindful of any fires that pop up.

Winter Weather

Though there is no major chance for snow and winter weather for the United States, the Southeast is under a Freeze Warning.  Most of Alabama, northern Florida, southern Georgia, and southern South Carolina are under a Freeze Warning until the morning of Wednesday, November 24, 2021.  According to the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Birmingham, Alabama, “Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.”
