Weekly Weather Watch – 16 November, 2021

Welcome to this week’s OU Nightly Weekly Weather Watch!

Norman, OK

Like last week, Oklahoma’s high temperatures this week will be a roller coaster.  On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, the high temperature will be in the mid 70s which is above average for this time of year for Oklahoma.  Tuesday, November 16, 2021, also has a risk of wildfires due to the dry conditions and gusty winds.  As the week goes on, the temperatures will cool down to the lower 50s by Wednesday as a cold front pushes through the area.  But in Oklahoma fashion, the high temperatures will bounce back up into the mid-60s by Saturday, November 20, 2021.  The cold front that will be making its way through Norman, Oklahoma, will be strong enough to cool down the temperatures but not much rain is expected.

Windy Weather

Much of the central United States will be dealing with very windy conditions and fire weather.  Parts of Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota are under a High Wind Warning and a Wind Advisory.  The entire state of North Dakota is dealing with those windy conditions, and according to NWS Forecast Office in Bismarck, North Dakota, the gusty winds “will blow around unsecured objects.  Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.  Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

Fire Weather

Because of those strong winds and dry conditions, many areas of the United States will have to deal with a chance of fire weather.  Places like South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas are all under a Red Flag Warning on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.  According to the NWS Forecast Office in Amarillo, Texas, a “combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create favorable weather for rapid fire growth and spread.  Avoid activities that promote open flames and sparks.”
