OU Begins Rape Awareness Week on Campus

The University of Oklahoma’s Gender and Equality Center is hoping to raise awareness and inform the student body about rape.

Throughout the week, the GEC will host events to show survivors artwork, host training sessions, host an open mic night and other beneficial events.

The GEC starts this amidst a time when rape is all too common on campus and the news. Hima Patel, an intern at the center, believes this is a week to start the tough conversations.

“By providing those spaces where survivors and victims of sexual assault are comfortable sharing their stories kind of raise awareness that is something occurring on our campus by doing that and allowing people to hear their stories, we can work together as a community to put an end to it,” Says Patel.

The GEC wants everyone to feel welcomed. If you are in need of help or need someone to talk to, visit the Gender and Equality Center website for more information.
