A new graduation ceremony on campus will highlight LGBTQ students marking the end of their journey at OU. The Lavender Graduation will be in the Union courtyard a little over a week from now.
The graduation will use seniors’ proper pronouns and names, and will have OU LGBTQ alumni talk about giving back to the university after leaving.
Gender and Equality Intern Chris Ebert says the graduation is meant to recognize the unique struggle queer college students face:
“It’s important to appreciate the strength it takes to navigate a space where you’re not the predominate identity.”
