FDA Proposes Changes to Breast Cancer Screening

The FDA has proposed changes to breast cancer screening to help patients and care providers make more informed decisions after receiving results.

The proposal includes providers being required to explain how dense breast tissue affects the accuracy of mammograms, so that patients are more informed and have the option to take additional tests to screen for cancer- three additional categories to mammogram assessments.

This is the first time in twenty years that the FDA has proposed amendments to mammogram regulations.
