Senate Blocks President’s National Emergency Declaration

The Senate has voted 59 to 41 to block the president’s national emergency declaration.
The resolution against the president’s declaration is now heading to the president’s desk, where he will most likely issue the first veto of his presidency.

However, Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro, who wrote the resolution against the national emergency declaration, is urging the House to vote against the anticipated veto.

A two-thirds majority would need to be reached in both the House and the Senate to override the veto.
