The Oklahoma State Department of Education released a report stating that approximately 30,000 teachers have left the profession in Oklahoma in the last six years.
The report was conducted in an effort to explain the state’s persistent teacher shortage problem.
Multiple indicators including teacher-pupil ratios show an average loss of 10 percent of the teacher population per year. These statistics have teachers about to enter the workforce concerned.
While the report cites teacher pay as a key factor it cautions that there are many more problems that need to be addressed.
