In an effort to move the university closer to financial stability, University President James Gallogly announced the layoff of 28 OU employees.
Most of the cuts occurred in the IT department, as well as the landscaping department at the Health Sciences Center campus.
Individuals were notified by their supervisors and given 60 days with pay prior to their last day.
Gallogly emphasized that although the decision was difficult, the university needs to continue to work towards financial stability and that these reductions will allow for growth in the future.
